This is unique indeed and emblematic for Romanians, they make fun of everything. In the dictatorship time this was a tool of survival. You have to attend an after burrial ceremony called "parastas" where they get drunk, laugh, tell jokes, and sing love songs. It seems that these come from very old times, those of Dacians and Thracians, rites preserved for thousands and thousands of years....

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Thank you for your comment! Yes, you're right, Geta & Ioan Pop are living in Hoteni/Maramures. I will post soon a couple of video sequences with him playing traditional music from Maramures! Happy holidays!!!

Thank you for the beautiful story about the Merry Cemetary, it took me back to October 2002 when I visited it on a tour with Dan Comenescu of NNV travel. I believe I have met Ioan Pop who played the music on both videos at the guesthouse he and his wife Geta have at Hoteni. He played the field fiddle for us after dinner. Maramures is wonderful and I would love to visit again one day.

soarele, little sun? little sister? how sweet. the young sun rises, the old sun goes to its rest as do we all, following her lead. "Dospi" has three of the letters of "drop," which means the opposite of rise. For you bread drops into its largeness. i love the crying-laughing as an anti-diary statement! keep up the good work. can't wait to go for a nice long walk at Dreamtime again!
